acro-osteolysis /ak′rō·os′tē·ol″isis/ , destruction of the digit tips, including the bone, usually caused by vasospasm. It is characterized by loss of bone tissue in the hands, Raynaud’s phenomenon, and sensitivity to cold temperatures. Causes include congenital conditions, scleroderma, Raynaud’s disease, Buerger’s disease, frostbite, and exposure to vinyl chloride.
