acetal

acetal, 1. a colorless, volatile liquid used as a solvent and sometimes as a hypnotic. Also called diethyl acetal. 2. any compound with the general formula R2C(OR)2 or RCH(OR)2, in which R indicates an alkyl or aryl group.
