corpus callosum /kôr′pəs kalō′səm/ , 1. a transverse band of nerve fibers joining the cerebral hemispheres. It is located at the bottom of the longitudinal fissure between the two hemispheres and is covered by the cingulate gyrus. 2. the largest commissure of the brain, connecting the cerebral hemispheres.
