coagulation necrosis, necrosis in which tissue becomes a dry, opaque, eosinophilic mass containing outlines of anucleated cells. It results from the denaturation of proteins following hypoxic injury, such as that caused by ischemia in infarction. Also called avascular necrosis, ischemic necrosis.
