chronic pigmented purpura, any of a group of benign dermatoses of unknown cause, not associated with underlying systemic disease, consisting of minimal inflammation with tiny hemorrhages from capillaries in the upper dermis, visible as red dots on the skin. Kinds include lichen aureus, pigmented purpuric lichenoid dermatitis, purpura annularis telangiectodes, Schamberg disease.
