chondrosarcoma /kon′drōsärkō″mə/ pl. chondrosarcomas, chondrosarcomata [Gk, chondros + sarx, flesh, oma, tumor] , a malignant neoplasm of cartilaginous cells or their precursors that occurs most frequently in long bones, the pelvic girdle, and the scapula. The tumor is a large, smooth, lobulated growth composed of nodules of hyaline cartilage that may show slight to marked calcification. Also called chondroma sarcomatosum. −chondrosarcomatous, adj.
