cholera siderans, a type of cholera seen during epidemics, in which the patient experiences a massive outpouring of fluid and electrolytes into the digestive system and dies of toxemia before the usual symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea develop. Mortality is high with this condition, and it is often not recognized as cholera.
