calvaria /kalver″ē·ə/ , the skullcap or superior portion of the skull, which varies greatly in shape from individual to individual. In some persons the calvaria is relatively oval, in others it is more circular. The fontanels, or soft spots, in the skull of an infant are situated on the surface of the calvaria at the junction of the sagittal and coronal sutures and at the junction of the sagittal and lambdoid sutures.
