brompheniramine maleate /brom′fənir″əmin/ , an antihistamine. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of allergic reactions, including rhinitis, skin reactions, and itching. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Asthma or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. It is not given to newborns, lactating mothers, or other people for whom anticholinergic medications are contraindicated. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, skin rash, hypersensitivity reactions, dry mouth, and tachycardia commonly occur.
