bretylium tosylate /britil″ē·əm/ , an antiarrhythmic agent. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of selected life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias when other measures have not been effective. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse reactions are hypotension, nausea and vomiting, anginal pain, and nasal stuffiness.
