Boykin, Anne, a nursing theorist who, with Savina O. Schoenhofer, wrote Nursing as Caring: A Model for Transforming Practice, which postulates that caring is the end, not the means, of nursing. The authors describe caring in nursing as a mutual process between caring persons in which the nurse artistically responds with authentic presence to calls for nursing. It is a concept not unique to nursing but in nursing. All activities of nursing emanate from a commitment to caring and engender a respect for the specialness of each person.
