baritosis /ber′ətō″sis/ , a benign form of pneumoconiosis caused by an accumulation of barium dust in the lungs. Barium does not cause fibrosis and is not a common cause of functional impairment. The condition is most likely to affect persons involved in the mining and processing of barite, a barium-containing compound used in the manufacture of paints.
