vocal cord

vocal cord [L, vocalis, voice; Gk, chorde, string] , one of a pair of strong bands of yellow elastic tissue in the larynx enclosed by membranes called vocal folds and attached ventrally to the angle of the thyroid cartilage and dorsally to the vocal process of the arytenoid cartilage. Also called true vocal cords, vocal ligament. Compare false vocal cord.
