veneer /vənir″/ [Fr, fournir, to furnish] , 1. a layer of tooth-colored material, usually porcelain or acrylic, attached to the surface of a crown or artificial tooth by direct fusion; a porcelain prosthesis used to change the shape, size, and color of a tooth or teeth. The prosthesis is directly cemented to the crown of the tooth or teeth. 2. a thin layer of calculus usually not visible until dried with air. See calculus.
