Valsalva’s test [Antonio M. Valsalva; L, testum, crucible] , a method for testing the patency of the eustachian tubes. With mouth and nose kept tightly closed, the patient makes a forced expiratory effort. If the eustachian tubes are open, air will enter into the middle ear cavities, and the subject will hear a popping sound. See also Valsalva maneuver.
