Trombiculidae /trom′bikyo̅o̅″lidē/ , a family of mites, including harvest mites, red bugs, and chiggers. The larvae are parasitic and the adults are free-living. The mites are disease vectors of typhus, rickettsiae, scrub itch, tsutsugamushi disease, and other infections.
