trimipramine maleate /trimip″rəmēn/ , a tricyclic antidepressant. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of depression. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Concomitant use of a monoamine oxidase inhibitor within 14 days or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. It is not given during recovery from myocardial infarction or to schizophrenic patients. It is not recommended for children. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are sedation tachycardia, seizures, parkinsonism, blurred vision, hypotension, and aggravation of glaucoma.
