trimethobenzamide hydrochloride /trīmeth′ōben″zəmīd/ , an anticholinergic and antiemetic. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for the relief of postoperative nausea and vomiting and nausea and vomiting associated with gastroenteritis. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Reye’s syndrome or known hypersensitivity to benzocaine-like local anesthetic or this drug prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the most serious adverse effects with high doses are drowsiness, allergic reactions, and extrapyramidal reactions. Adverse reactions are rare at usual dosages.
