Babinski’s reflex

Babinski’s reflex /bəbin″skēz/ [Joseph F.F. Babinski, French neurologist, 1857–1932] , dorsiflexion of the big toe with extension and fanning of the other toes elicited by firmly stroking the lateral aspect of the sole of the foot. The reflex is normal in newborns and abnormal in children and adults, in whom it may indicate a lesion in the pyramidal tract or other neurological insult.
