traumatopnea

traumatopnea /trô′mətop″nē·ə/ [Gk, trauma + pnein, to breathe] , partial asphyxia with collapse of the patient, caused by a penetrating thoracic wound permitting air to enter the pleural space and compress the lungs. Also called open pneumothorax.
