tolazoline hydrochloride /tolaz′əlēn/ , an alpha-adrenergic receptor blocker. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn and in peripheral vascular disease. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are cardiac arrhythmia, hypotension or hypertension, exacerbation of stress ulcer, hemorrhage, and mitral stenosis.
