sulindac /sulin″dek/ , a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agent. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Pregnancy (third trimester), lactation, or known hypersensitivity to this drug, aspirin, or nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs prohibits its use. It is used with caution in patients who have upper GI tract disease or impaired renal function. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse reactions are GI upset, peptic ulcer, dizziness, tinnitus, and skin rash.
