Stewart, Isabel Maitland [1878–1963] , a Canadian-born American nursing educator and writer. The first nurse to receive a master’s degree from Columbia University in New York, she succeeded Mary Adelaide Nutting as Professor of Nursing at Teachers College at that university. She was instrumental in upgrading the nursing curriculum and in directing educational policies and became an important figure in international nursing affairs.
