stellate ganglion [L, stella, star; Gk, gagglion, knot] , a large irregular ganglion on the lowest part of the cervical sympathetic trunk fused with the first thoracic ganglion. Its branches communicate with the seventh and eighth cervical nerves. Also called cervicothoracic ganglion.
