relative biological effectiveness (RBE) /rel″ətiv/ [L, relatio] , a measure of the cell-killing ability of a particular radiation compared with that of 250 keV x-rays. The ratio of the number of cells killed with the test radiation over the number killed with the 250 keV radiation is the RBE.
