rehabilitation counselor, a human services professional who helps clients with emotional or physical disabilities. Rehabilitation counselors work with clients to overcome or manage the personal, social, and physical effects of disabilities on employment or independent living. Rehabilitation counselors may earn certification from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification and are eligible for licensure by nearly all states that regulate counselors. Most certified rehabilitation counselors practice in the United States; those who practice in Canada are known as Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CCRCs).
