red blood cell (RBC) count [AS, read + blod + L, cella, storeroom; Fr, conter, to count] , a count of the erythrocytes in a specimen of whole blood, commonly made with an electronic counting device. The normal concentrations of RBCs in the whole blood of males are 4.6 to 6.2 million/mm3. In females the concentrations are 4.2 to 5.4 million/mm3.
