raltegravir, an antiretroviral. ▪ INDICATIONS: This drug is used to treat HIV in combination with other retrovirals. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Breastfeeding and known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibit its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Adverse effects of this drug include fatigue, fever, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, asthenia, gastritis, rash, urticaria, pruritus, pain or phlebitis at IV site, unusual sweating, alopecia, hyperamylasia, hyperglycemia, and myopathy. Life-threatening side effects include hepatitis, oliguria, proteinuria, hematuria, glomerulonephritis, acute renal failure, renal tubular necrosis, anemia, neutropenia, and rhabdomyolysis.
