quazepam /kwah′zĕ-pam/ , a benzodiazepine used as a sedative and hypnotic in the treatment of insomnia. It is administered orally. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is used when an individual has difficulty falling or staying asleep. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Contraindicated in pregnancy. The drug should not be taken if there is a history of allergic reactions to this medication or other benzodiazepines. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Some individuals using this medicine have engaged in activity such as driving or eating while not fully awake and with no memory of the activity.
