punctum lacrimale /lak′rimā″lē/ pl. puncta lacrimalia [L, punctum, prick, lacrima, tear] , a minute circular aperture in the medial opening into the nasolacrimal sac. The puncta drain the tears that travel from the lacrimal glands through the lacrimal ducts to the conjunctiva. Puncta clogged with mucus or dirt cause irritation and discomfort.
