arteritis

arteritis /är′tərī″tis/ [Gk, arteria + itis] , inflammation of the inner layers or the outer coat of one or more arteries. It may occur as a clinical entity or accompany another disorder, such as rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic fever, polymyositis, or systemic lupus erythematosus. Kinds include infantile arteritis, rheumatic arteritis, Takayasu’s arteritis, temporal arteritis. See also endarteritis, periarteritis.
