presbycardia /prez′bēkär″dē·ə/ [Gk, presbys, old man, kardia, heart] , an abnormal cardiac condition that especially affects elderly individuals and may be associated with heart failure in the presence of other complications, such as heart disease, fever, anemia, mild hyperthyroidism, and excess fluid administration. Presbycardia may be associated with decreased myocardial elasticity and mild fibrotic changes of the heart valves, but the basis for these changes and the associated pigmentation of the heart is not known.
