pericoronitis

pericoronitis /-kôr′ənī″tis/ , inflammation of the gum tissue around the crown of a tooth, usually associated with the eruption of a third molar. Treatment depends on the severity of the condition and may include the use of antibiotics or extraction of the tooth. In most cases the inflammation subsides after the tooth has fully erupted.
