nuchal ligament

nuchal ligament, the fibrous membrane that reaches from the external occipital protuberance and median nuchal line to the spinous process of the seventh vertebra. A fibrous lamina from the ligament attaches to the posterior tubercle of the atlas and the spinous processes of the cervical vertebrae, forming a septum between muscles on either side of the neck.
