antimony (Sb) /an″təmō′nē/ [L, antimonium] , a bluish, crystalline metallic substance occurring in nature which is listed as element number 51 on the Periodic Table of the Elements. Various antimony compounds are used in the treatment of filariasis, leishmaniasis, lymphogranuloma, schistosomiasis, and trypanosomiasis. They are also used as emetics.
