acanthocytosis /akan′thōsītō″sis/ [Gk, akantha + kytos + osis, condition] , the presence of acanthocytes on a peripheral blood film, most commonly associated with abetalipoproteinemia, in which as many as 80% of the erythrocytes are acanthocytes.
