National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), established in 1974, the NBSTSA administers the national certification examinations in the United States for surgical technologists and surgical assistants, and designates the CST® and CFA® credentials to candidates who successfully pass the exam. Formerly called Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist.
