nasomandibular fixation

nasomandibular fixation /nā′zōmandib″yo͝olər/ [L, nasus + mandere, to chew, figere, to fasten] , a type of maxillomandibular fixation to stabilize fractures of the jaw by using maxillomandibular splints connected to a wire through a hole drilled in the anterior nasal spine of the maxillary bone. It has been used particularly in patients who have lost all of their natural teeth. See also maxillomandibular fixation.
