NADPH oxidase defect

NADPH oxidase defect, a disorder in patients with chronic granulomatosis disease. It is caused by an abnormality in the enzyme (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase) that catalyzes the conversion of oxygen to superoxide anions and hydrogen peroxide in phagocytes. Phagocytes with the abnormal enzyme are unable to destroy invading microorganisms.
