mycotic endocarditis /mīkot′ik en′do·kär·dī′tis/ [Gk, mykes, fungus; Gk, endon, within + kardia, heart + -itis, inflammatory disease suffix] , infectious endocarditis caused by infection by a fungus, most commonly Candida albicans and species of Aspergillus and Histoplasma. Symptoms are usually subacute.
