anthropoid pelvis [Gk, anthropos, human, eidos, form] , a type of pelvis in which the pelvic inlet is oval and the anteroposterior diameter of the pelvic inlet is much greater than the transverse. The posterior portion of the space in the true pelvis is much greater than the anterior portion. If a woman’s pelvis is large, vaginal delivery is not compromised, but the occiput posterior position of the fetus is favored. See also pelvis.
