mimic spasm

mimic spasm /mim″ik/ [Gk, mimetikos, imitative, spasmos, spasm] , involuntary stereotyped movements of a small group of muscles such as of the face. The spasm is usually psychogenic and may be aggravated by stress or anxiety but is generally controllable momentarily. Multiple grimacing and blinking mimic spasms occur in Gilles de la Tourette’s syndrome. Also called tic.
