methysergide maleate /meth′isur″jīd/ , a vasoconstrictor. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for relief of migraine headache. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Pregnancy, severe infection, liver or kidney dysfunction, cardiovascular or lung disease, or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. It is not recommended for use in children. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are retroperitoneal fibrosis; hallucinations; abnormally low white cell count; pulmonary and cardiac complications; hemolytic anemia; leg cramps; and pain in the chest, abdomen, back, hands, or feet.
