meclofenamate sodium /mek′lōfen″əmāt/ , a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agent. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, dysmenorrhea, and other mild to moderate pain. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to aspirin or to nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs prohibits its use. It is used with caution in patients who have upper GI disease or impaired renal function. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are GI distress, peptic ulcers, dizziness, rashes, and tinnitus. This drug interacts with many other drugs.
