mast cell

mast cell [Ger, Mast, fattening; L, cella, storeroom] , a constituent of connective tissue containing large basophilic granules that contain heparin, serotonin, bradykinin, and histamine. These substances are released from the mast cell in response to injury, inflammation, and infection.
