aniline (C6H5NH2) /an″ilēn/ [Ar, alnil, indigo] , a toxic organic compound made synthetically. Its main use is in the manufacture of precursors to polyurethane and other industrial chemicals. Like most volatile amines, it has a characteristic foul odor. Industrial workers exposed to aniline are at risk of developing methemoglobinemia and bone marrow suppression.
