lisdexamfetamine, a central nervous system stimulant. ▪ INDICATIONS: This drug is used to treat attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hyperthyroidism, hypertension, glaucoma, severe arteriosclerosis, drug abuse, cardiovascular disease, anxiety, anorexia nervosa, breastfeeding, and known hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic amines prohibit the use of this drug. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Adverse effects of this drug include dizziness, headache, dysphoria, irritability, aggressiveness, central nervous system tumor, dependence, addiction, mild euphoria, somnolence, lability, hypertension, decrease in heart rate, MI, growth inhibition, dry mouth, diarrhea, weight loss, impotence, change in libido, and urticaria. Life-threatening side effects include arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, angioedema, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis. Common side effects include hyperactivity, insomnia, restlessness, talkativeness, palpitations, tachycardia, and anorexia.
