levator palpebrae superioris

levator palpebrae superioris, one of the three muscles of the eyelid, also considered an extrinsic muscle of the eye. It is thin and flat and rises from the small wing of the sphenoid. It is innervated by the oculomotor nerve. It elevates the upper eyelid and is the antagonist of the orbicularis oculi. Compare corrugator supercilii, orbicularis oculi.
