angiocardiography

angiocardiography /-kär′dē·og″rəfē/ [Gk, angeion + kardia, heart, graphein, to record] , the process of producing a radiograph of the heart and its great vessels. A radiopaque contrast medium is injected directly into the heart by a catheter introduced through the antecubital or femoral veins. X-ray images are taken as the contrast medium passes through the heart and great vessels. Also called cardiac angiography, angiography, cardiac catheterization.
