leukocytosis /lo̅o̅′kōsītō″sis/ [Gk, leukos + kytos, cell, osis, condition] , an abnormally elevated total peripheral white blood cell count, often associated with bacterial infection. Extreme elevations may be associated with leukemia. Also spelled leucocytosis. Compare leukemia, leukemoid reaction, leukopenia. Kinds include basophilia, eosinophilia, neutrophilia.
